OUR SHAREHOLDERS
Our shareholders Impepho Travel Corporation (represented by
Blacky Komani) and Siyazi Investment Holdings (represented by
Thembi Kunene) have a deep understanding of the tourism industry
and we believe that they add tremendous value to TIO Africa.
Both Blacky and Thembi are very passionate about responsible
tourism and empowerment and we are convinced that our shareholders
will not only bring opportunities to TIO Africa in areas that
will give the company strategic advantage over its competition,
but will ensure that TIO Africa becomes the industry leader
in sustainable transformation.
TIO Africa’s objectives include the creation and investment
in niche operations and markets, the continued development of
the TIO Academy and the consolidation of the various social
responsibility efforts of Tourvest Inbound Operations.
BLACKY KOMANI
Blacky Komani holds a BAdmin (Hons) from the
University of Fort Hare and a Master of Tourism Administration
degree from George Washington University. Blacky has been involved
in the tourism industry since 1985, and during his time as head
of South African Tourism in North America, the tourist flow
to South Africa increased by 30%.
In 2002, Blacky was appointed as Sales and Marketing Director
for Karell’s African Dream Vacations and South African
Airways Holidays,
an American based travel agency, becoming Managing Director
in 2004. In this capacity, Blacky repositioned Karell as a strong
luxury brand and restructured it from a family business into
a corporation with fully empowered staff and management.
Blacky is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Impepho Travel
Corporation, a black empowered tourism company based in Johannesburg.
THEMBI KUNENE
Thembi Kunene holds a BA Communications degree from the University
of Fort Hare. After starting her career in advertising and public
relations, Thembi joined the Airports Company
of South Africa in 1994 and in 1997 was appointed as Manager
of George Airport - becoming the first woman, the first black
person and the youngest person ever to run an airport in South
Africa.
In 2000, Thembi became Chief Executive Officer of the Johannesburg
Zoo and in 2003 she joined the Bidvest Group as Commercial Director
of the Bidfreight division.
Thembi is currently Chief Executive Officer of
Siyazi Investment Holdings, a strategic Management Consultancy.
In addition, Thembi is a non-executive Director of the Industrial
Development Corporation and a management trustee of the Nelson
Mandela Children’s Fund.
